Our Staff-Dr Kristin Varner-Maslar

Dr. Kristin Varner-Maslar

Dr. Kristin Varner is the co-owner and medical director of FVC, along with her husband, Patrick Maslar, who runs the business end. They have owned FVC since 05/02. Dr. Varner was born and raised in Waterloo, IA and graduated in 5/91 with a DVM and BS degrees from Iowa State University. She moved to MD after graduation to work with horses. She practiced primarily equine medicine for 3 years before changing to small animals. Since then she has been part owner of another veterinary clinic, but now is focusing entirely on FVC. Dr. Varner and her husband had a son Joseph in May 03 and a daughter Charlotte in May 05 who keep them busy. However, in her free time she enjoys horses, horseback riding, outdoor activities like hiking, biking, water sports and reading. They have 3 dogs, 1 cat and 2 horses that share their lives.

Dr. Christine Yates

Dr. Christine Yates

Dr. Yates was born and raised in upstate New York. She attended SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY. Afterwards, she worked for two years as a veterinary assistant and then attended veterinary school at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Yate’s hobbies include hiking, playing piano, guitar, and spending time with her two best pals Charlie and Hunter. I am very pleased to be working at Family Vet clinic and I look forward to continuing to care for you and your pets.

Our Staff-Dr Chaundra Schofield

Dr. Chaundra Schofield

Dr. Schofield was born and raised in Indiana, where she began her career in veterinary medicine working a veterinary technician in high school. She graduated with a BA in Biology from Earlham College in Richmond, IN. After graduation, Chaundra continued to work as a veterinary technician for several years and as a marine biologist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (Edgewater, MD). Dr. Schofield attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from veterinary school, she completed a small animal rotating internship “ focusing in emergency and critical care at a specialty referral hospital in northern Virginia. Dr. Schofield was very happy to join the Family Veterinary Clinic team in the fall of 2013. Her hobbies include horseback riding, Middle Eastern dancing, photography, playing guitar and making jewelry. She and her husband share their home with their dog Teka (pictured), and 2 cats, Josie and Sera.

Our Staff-Holistics Marcie Baer

Marcie Baer, Holistics

Marcie Baer provides acupuncture and herbal treatments at FVC. She completed a Master’s degree program at the Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Columbia, MD after which she was selected by Cyrie Barnes to take over her human and animal acupuncture practice in Columbia. They worked together there for more than a year. Other professional training includes Chinese and American herbs, homeopathy, NAET allergy elimination, animal acupuncture, and biomeridian/computer-based meridian testing. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Elmira College with a triple major and later completed her pre-med/vet requirements. She has worked extensively with vets in large and small animal practices as well as with specialists in veterinary surgery and internal medicine, and in the pharmaceutical industry. Marcie has owned, bred, and trained Labrador Retrievers since 1970. She is currently an AKC Judge for Hunting Retriever Events, competes at all levels with her dogs, and has earned obedience titles with them. Holistic Wellness and Acupuncture. Office Staff

Our Staff-Loretta Campbell

Loretta Campbell, Office Manager

Loretta, our office manager, has many functions outside this office. She runs a multifaceted management company and is our payroll/tax administrator. Although she has no pets, she is a recent grandmother to adoring twins and a bunny named Spud, who keeps her on her toes. She is an excellent cook and our staff lunches are always delicious.

Our Staff-Sharon Hughes

Sharon Hughes, Receptionist

Sharon Hughes has been with our clinic since 1993. She is the mother of 4 sons and grandmother to a 11-year-old granddaughter. She shares her home with her husband of 21 years and one very spoiled pitbull named Sage. She is an avid teddy bear collector. She enjoys her interaction with our clients. Her knowledge of pet health issues and customer service are an asset to FVC.

Our Staff-Trisha Fox

Trisha Fox, Receptionist

Trisha has been with FVC since 1996. She is a nationally recognized breeder of champion Shih Tzus. Foxfire Shih Tzu originated in 1980 and since that time she has bred and shown 100 champions. Trisha is one of our receptionists and is responsible for purchasing supplies and pharmaceuticals for the clinic. When not showing dogs she can usually be found on her husband’s boat with a fishing pole in hand.

Pam Zangardi, Receptionist

After serving over 10 years on active duty in the U.S. Army I settled here in Central Maryland with my husband Paul to start our family. We are the proud parents of two girls, Emily and Anna. Though I live here in Maryland, I still consider myself a Pittsburgh girl, always rooting for my Black and Gold (Steelers, Pirates and Penguins). I also have a deep love for cats and always have at least one (if not more) that share my home.

Sheena

Shenna Washington, Receptionist

Shenna was born and raised in the beautiful country in Maryland. She has a strong love and passion for animals which comes across to all the animals she meets. She is the social butterfly of the office and is always quick to lend a hand to help. Sheena has a particular interest in exotic animals and has experience in exotic medicine and education. On her days off she likes to spend her time at the zoo. She and her husband share their house with three bearded dragons named, Thor, Flash, and Kingston.

Technicians

Our Staff-Eve Laurango

Eve Laurange, Technician

Eve, our most senior employee, has been working as a technician since 1984, but here at FVC since 1991. You can most often find Eve drawing blood, bathing dogs and cats, assisting the doctors in surgery and dental procedures, doing nail trims or showering love on the dogs and cats who are in the hospital. Eve loves animals so much she also does pet sitting in her off time from FVC. She shares her home with two dogs, Summer and Tiki, one wonderful cat named Clarence that came to FVC as a strayand her husband, Daryl.

Debi Persing, Technician

Debi Persing has been a veterinary technician since 1991. She had previously worked with Dr. Varner and Lisa Smith for several years. She has been with FVC since April of 2003. Debi has experience working with exotic pets, as well as in animal eye care. Debi and her husband volunteer for Greyhound Pets of America. Debi shares her life with 6 greyhounds, 4 Boston terriers, 1 cat and 2 birds.

Tina Caputo has been a veterinary technician since 2002. She was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. She shares her home with Alyssa(her new baby girl)David her boyfriend and Pandora her Chihuahua. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching the Capitals play.

I was born and raised in Harwood, MD yet currently live in Chesapeake Beach. Became a vet tech in 2004 and was thrilled when I became part of the Family Veterinary Clinic team in August of 2013. Animals have always been a huge part of my life and I can honestly say that I LOVE WHAT I DO!

Our Staff-Jackie Hanfman

Jackie Hanfman, Technician

Jackie has been a veterinary technician since 2007 and has been with Family Veterinary Clinic since November 2013. She has worked in emergency and with exotics and has helped in the raising and hand feeding of African grey parrots. Jackie has a passion for working with animals and is currently a senior at Towson University majoring in biology with hopes of going to veterinary school after pursuing her master’s degree. Her furry family consists of a multitude of rescue cats. In her spare time she enjoys hiking with friends and listening to live music.
