Wellness and Preventative Care


Family Veterinary Clinic is passionate about the health of your pet. That is why we have formulated a thorough regimen for wellness and preventative care to make it easier for you to keep your pet healthy. A yearly well visit is recommended for all pets, regardless of their health. We treat a wide variety of pets, from dogs and cats, to ferrets and bunnies; our team makes sure to customize wellness exams to your pet’s individual needs.

Some of the basics you can expect to experience during your pet’s standard annual exam, regardless of their species or breed, can include:

  • Dental health : any mouth odors, pain, or other signs of disease
  • Nutrition : what your pet eats, how often, what supplements and treats are given, and changes in water consumption, weight, or appetite
  • Exercise : how much exercise your pet receives including how often and what kind; and any changes in your pet’s mobility
  • Ears and Eyes : inspection for any discharge, redness, or itching
  • Stomach and intestines : any vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, gas, belching, or abnormal stools or pain or abnormalities felt on palpation
  • Heart : evaluation for murmurs, arrhythmias, pulse abnormalities
  • Breathing : any coughing, shortness of breath, sneezing, or nasal discharge
  • Behavior : any behavior problems or recent changes in temperament
  • Feet and legs : any limping, weakness, arthritis, toenail problems
  • Neurological : any weakness, pain, ataxia, or abnormal mentation
  • Coat and skin : any hair loss, pigment changes, lumps, itchy spots, shedding, mats, or anal sac problems
  • Urogenital : any discharges, heats, changes in mammary glands, urination difficulties or changes
  • Blood or urine analysis : especially for geriatric pets, those with medical problems, and those who are receiving medications
  • Vaccination status and parasite control for intestinal parasites, fleas, ticks, mites, and heartworms
